American companies still make a long list of parts for cars and trucks, from forged crankshafts and aluminum cylinder heads to brake calipers, lift kits and receiver hitches. Some are large plants that supply automakers; many more are performance and racing shops that machine, weld and assemble parts in-house.

Engine parts are split in two. Engine internal covers what goes inside the block: blocks, crankshafts, connecting rods, pistons and rings and the valve train. Engine external covers what bolts on: cylinder heads, intake manifolds, fuel systems, air intakes, superchargers and headers and exhaust. Outside the engine you will find brakes, suspension, drivetrain parts, tires and wheels, trailer hitches and body, lighting and other parts.

The makers featured below are brands many buyers already know. Each has its own US factory, and each one's listing says what it makes there and where that information comes from. Featured spots are not paid for. Every featured company also appears, with more detail, on the page for each type of part it makes.
