Engine internal parts take the most punishment in a performance engine, and the US is still home to many of the companies that forge, machine and finish them: crankshaft and rod makers in California, Ohio and Michigan, piston makers in Ohio, Tennessee and California, and cam and valve train shops across the country.
Each part has its own page: blocks, crankshafts, connecting rods, pistons and rings and valve train (camshafts, lifters, rocker arms, pushrods and springs). The companies listed on this page make several of these, so they also appear on each part page. Parts that bolt to the outside of the engine are on the engine external page.
Aichi Forge USA, part of Japan's Aichi Steel (a Toyota group company), makes steel forgings including crankshafts, connecting rods, steering knuckles and differential ring gears. It sells to vehicle and equipment makers, including Toyota's North American plants, not to the public.
Made in: Georgetown, KY (forged crankshafts, connecting rods, chassis and drivetrain parts).
Callies makes crankshafts, connecting rods and camshafts for racing and high-performance engines, from Magnum and Ultra forged and billet cranks to Ultra Enforcer rods and finish-ground diesel and gas camshafts. Its sister company, Energy Manufacturing, machines billet and cast engine blocks. The lower-cost Compstar line covers cranks and rods for street and budget racing builds.
Made in: Fostoria, OH (Callies-brand crankshafts, connecting rods and camshafts); Fremont, OH (Energy engine blocks). Compstar parts are forged and partly machined overseas, then finished and inspected in Fostoria.
COMP Cams makes camshafts and valvetrain parts (lifters, rocker arms, valve springs and pushrods) for domestic and import performance engines. It is part of the Edelbrock Group.
Made in: Memphis, TN (camshafts cut from bar stock, heat-treated, ground and inspected; also R&D and dyno testing). Headquarters and distribution are in Olive Branch, MS.
CP-Carrillo makes forged pistons and connecting rods for racing and high-performance engines: CP pistons, Carrillo steel and aluminum rods, the Bullet Series and Arias pistons, used in drag racing from Top Fuel to Pro Stock and Pro Mod, circle track, UTV, motorcycle and street engines, with custom parts built to order. It is part of Pankl Racing Systems.
Made in: Irvine, CA (pistons and connecting rods, at its 32,000 sq ft headquarters and manufacturing plant).
Crower makes camshafts, lifters, rocker arms and other valve train parts, crankshafts and connecting rods for racing and performance engines, plus Crowerglide and pedal clutches for drag racing and truck and tractor pulling. Founded in 1955, it calls itself the world's largest maker of aftermarket crankshafts and connecting rods.
Made in: San Diego, CA (parts machined in-house on CNC equipment in its 110,000 sq ft plant). The company says it uses US-milled steel and keeps its production in the USA.
Elgin Industries makes engine and chassis parts for vehicle makers and the replacement market, including camshafts, lifters and other valvetrain parts, Pro Stock performance parts and heavy-duty engine parts. Family owned since 1919.
Made in: Elgin, IL (original-equipment parts designed and made at its plant; its LS-style lifters and several performance camshafts are labeled US-made).
MAHLE Motorsport North America makes forged pistons and piston rings for racing and performance engines, including POWERPAK piston kits for more than 1,200 applications, ProSeries and Elite Sportsman drag pistons, diesel pistons and custom pistons. It is part of the German MAHLE group.
Made in: Morristown, TN. MAHLE says every POWERPAK piston is made there and that it makes all its pistons in the USA. Its North American office is in Fletcher, NC.
Melling makes replacement and performance engine parts: oil pumps, water pumps, camshafts, timing components, valvetrain parts, cylinder sleeves and expansion plugs. The company is family owned.
Made in: Jackson, MI (water pumps assembled and tested; precision-turned parts) and Farwell, MI (tube assemblies for auto suppliers). The company says many, but not all, of its parts are made in the USA.
Wiseco makes forged pistons and piston kits for motorcycles, ATVs, snowmobiles, personal watercraft and cars, and also sells connecting rods and other engine parts. It is part of Race Winning Brands and dates to 1941.
Made in: Mentor, OH (pistons forged and CNC-machined in a 150,000 sq ft plant).
Camshafts, lifters, rocker arms, pushrods, valve springs and belt drives made in the USA.
