Aftermarket engine blocks are built stronger than factory blocks, with thicker walls and decks, larger bore and stroke capacity and stronger main caps. The makers on this page machine cast iron and cast aluminum blocks in-house, including race blocks from a company with its own foundry, and carve billet blocks from solid aluminum, for small- and big-block Chevy, LS, small-block Ford, Gen II and Gen III Hemi and Toyota 2JZ engines.

A block is the start of a rotating assembly. Crankshafts, connecting rods and pistons have their own pages.

Iron, aluminum or billet?

Cast iron blocks are strong and the lowest cost. Aluminum blocks save weight. Billet blocks are machined from solid aluminum for the highest-horsepower racing engines and cost the most. Check bore size, deck height and main-cap style against the crankshaft and pistons you plan to use.
