American plants still build most of the snowmobiles and many of the side-by-sides and ATVs sold here, much of it in northern Minnesota, home to two of the largest names in the business. These machines go to trail riders, hunters, farmers and ranchers, and snowmobile clubs across the snow belt.
Some models, and some of their engines, are built outside the US, in Mexico for example, and each listing says which plants build what. The three-wheeled Slingshot is also listed under Trikes.
Arctic Cat builds snowmobiles (Catalyst trail, mountain and crossover sleds, four-stroke touring models, youth sleds), Prowler and Wildcat side-by-sides, and Alterra ATVs for trail riders, hunters and farm use. Textron sold the company in April 2025 to an investor group led by CEO Brad Darling, and production restarted that summer.
Made in: Thief River Falls, MN (snowmobile and side-by-side assembly) and St. Cloud, MN (engines). The company also has facilities in Bucyrus, OH and Winnipeg, Canada.
