The crankshaft turns the pistons' up-and-down motion into rotation, and in a high-horsepower engine it has to survive enormous loads. The American makers on this page machine billet crankshafts from solid steel bar, finish forged crankshafts in-house, and forge OEM crankshafts on large press lines, for Chevy, Ford, Mopar, diesel and import engines.
Several also make connecting rods and sell matched rotating assemblies. Engine blocks and pistons have their own pages.

Forged or billet?
A forged crank is pressed close to shape and then machined, which keeps the grain of the steel running along the crank. A billet crank is machined from a solid bar, which lets the maker choose any stroke, counterweight design or journal size and suits custom racing engines. Both are stronger than a cast factory crank.
