Most espresso machines are made in Italy, Spain or Asia, but the Seattle area has become a center for American-built commercial espresso machines. All four makers here build their machines there, from hand-welded multi-boiler machines to super-automatics and under-counter systems.

An espresso machine's boilers, group heads and frame are most of its value, but its pumps, grinders and controls are often bought from European suppliers. Each listing is rated for the company's most American-made machines and names what is known to come from elsewhere.

What "made in USA" means for espresso machines

  • Even US-built machines use European parts. Synesso's pumps come from an Italian maker, and Concordia's built-in grinders from Germany.
  • Owned abroad, built here. Slayer belongs to Italy's Cimbali Group and Synesso and Concordia to Middleby; all three still build their machines near Seattle.
  • "Built" can mean assembled. Concordia and Mavam describe their work as assembly; Synesso forms and welds its frames and tanks by hand.

Each listing's research notes show what was checked and when, including our rough estimate of how much of the value is imported. Ratings are rechecked as companies answer.
