Commercial countertop cooking equipment is still built in the USA by foodservice makers: a New Jersey family company that has made rotisserie ovens since 1946, and a Tennessee plant that builds hot dog roller grills, griddles and other countertop equipment for convenience stores, concession stands and restaurants.
Countertop cookers are mostly stainless steel cabinets, but their motors, heating elements and controls are a real share of their value. Each listing is rated for the company's most American-made countertop line and names what is known to come from elsewhere.
Ranked by Made in USA level, highest first; ties are in alphabetical order. The level measures how much is made in the USA, not product quality. How the levels work
Hickory Industries makes Old Hickory commercial rotisserie ovens, including gas and electric countertop and floor batch rotisseries for chicken, churrasco grills and display warmers, for supermarkets, delis and restaurants. Founded in 1946, the family-owned company builds its equipment in North Bergen, New Jersey.
Hickory's site reads "Made in the USA" and "U.S.-Made, Built and supported in New Jersey," and its About page says "From our New Jersey facility, we build equipment" and calls it an American manufacturer "since 1946." Dealers list its N/6.5E countertop rotisserie as made in the USA.
A sourcing directory describes its 46,000 sq ft North Bergen manufacturing plant, and its assembler job covers metal and mechanical assembly and CNC work there. Hickory doesn't say where its spit motors, fans, heating elements and controllers are made.
Production history: at 4900 Westside Avenue in North Bergen since at least 1997, family-owned for four generations; it added churrasco and new gas ovens in 2024 and was hiring assemblers in 2026.
Our rough estimate: motors, heating elements and controls of unknown origin are about 25–35% of a rotisserie's value.
Level 4 for its Old Hickory countertop batch rotisseries: Hickory Industries says its rotisseries are made in the USA and builds them at its North Bergen, New Jersey plant; it doesn't say where their motors and heating elements come from.
Star Manufacturing makes commercial countertop cooking equipment, including Grill-Max hot dog roller grills, hot dog steamers, griddles, charbroilers, hot plates, panini grills, toasters and waffle bakers for restaurants, convenience stores and concession stands. It has built equipment in Smithville, Tennessee since 1982 and has been part of Middleby since 2007.
Star's About page: "We proudly manufacture our equipment in the U.S.A." and "Our plant in Smithville, Tennessee is home to all the Star Group brands." Dealers list its Grill-Max roller grills as made in the USA.
Import records show the Star group bringing in machined griddle plates, a chrome top plate and cable assemblies from Sri Lanka in 2025–2026, so we rate its roller grills rather than its griddles. Star doesn't say where the rollers, roller motors and heating elements are made.
Production history: founded in St. Louis in 1921, in Smithville since 1982 and part of Middleby since 2007; the group renamed itself Star Brands in May 2026. Its January and October 2026 job postings cover fabrication, welding, assembly and testing on 15 production lines.
Our rough estimate: rollers, motors, elements and controls of unknown origin are about 10–30% of a roller grill's value.
Level 4 for its Grill-Max hot dog roller grills: Star says it manufactures its equipment in the U.S.A. at Smithville, Tennessee and dealers list its roller grills as made in the USA; it doesn't say where their rollers and motors come from.
What "made in USA" means for countertop cooking equipment
Commercial equipment is still built here; most home countertop appliances are not.
Parts can come from abroad. Star builds its equipment in Tennessee, but import records show its group bringing in machined griddle plates from Sri Lanka, so its listing is rated for its roller grills.
Each listing's research notes show what was checked and when, including our rough estimate of how much of the value is imported. Ratings are rechecked as companies answer.
