Restaurants, food plants, schools and offices can buy much of their equipment from American factories: commercial refrigeration, freeze dryers, hand dryers, scales, floor machines and industrial blenders and mixers. Each type has its own page, ranked by Made in USA level.

Most of this equipment is fabricated from steel in the makers' own US plants, often built to order. Motors, compressors and controls are frequently bought in, which is why most makers here rate Level 4.

What "made in USA" means for commercial appliances

  • Fabrication is the strong point. Cutting, forming and welding the steel cabinet, tank or frame in a US plant is real US manufacturing, and it is what most of these ratings rest on.
  • Bought-in parts are the usual limit. Few makers say where their motors, compressors or controls come from.
  • Commercial only. Many of these makers sell only to businesses, through dealers or direct. Each listing says what the company makes and who it sells to.

Change log

  • This section was rebuilt. Commercial appliances now have their own section, with each type on its own page and makers ranked by Made in USA level. Scales, including bath scales, are now under Scales, and freeze dryers moved here from their own section.
  • The makers shown at the top are picked automatically: the highest Made in USA level in each type, with ties settled by a fixed random draw. Featured spots are not paid for.
  • Every maker now has a Made in USA level from 0 to 5, with the sources and research notes behind it. See how the levels work.
