Industrial and commercial vacuums are one of the few vacuum types still widely built in the USA, mostly by family companies in New Jersey, Massachusetts and California that make them for factories, plants and cleaning crews.

Many of these vacuums run on compressed air and have no electric motor at all; the rest use bought-in motors. Each listing is rated for the company's most American-made line and says what is known to come from elsewhere.

What "made in USA" means for commercial vacuums

  • Compressed-air vacuums avoid the motor question. HafcoVac, VAC-U-MAX and Guardair make vacuums driven by shop air through a venturi, often mounted on a standard steel drum.
  • Some makers claim American parts too. Ruwac USA says all its vacuums are made in America with American made parts at its Holyoke plant; we rate it a 4 until its motors are confirmed.
  • "Assembled" rates lower. Guardair says its vacuums are assembled in the USA, and Sandia's backpacks are sold as assembled in the USA.

Each listing's research notes show what was checked and when, including our rough estimate of how much of the value is imported.
