Almost every clothing steamer sold today is imported. Jiffy Steamer, which introduced its first steamer in 1940, still builds its home and professional steamers by hand in Union City, Tennessee.
A garment steamer is mostly its water tank or boiler, heating element, hose and steam head. Each listing is rated for the company's most American-made line and says what is known to come from elsewhere.
Jiffy Steamer makes clothing and fabric steamers, from the J-2000 home steamer and ESTEAM travel steamer to J-4000 Pro Line commercial units and hat, wig, drapery and upholstery steamers, for homes and businesses. The family-owned company introduced its first steamer in 1940 and builds them in Union City, Tennessee.
Jiffy's site says, "Every handcrafted Jiffy Steamer is assembled with only the finest, American-made components," and a 2023 company post says "every single product is handcrafted with the highest quality, American-made parts and components in Union City (Obion County), Tennessee," with "fifty-two unique steps to construct just one steamer."
The makers of its boiler, heating element, hose and steam heads aren't named, so the all-American parts claim can't be checked part by part.
Production history: Jiffy has made steamers since 1940 and builds them in Union City; a 2026 county directory lists about 35 people in steamer production there. It is still family owned. We found no move or layoff.
Our rough estimate: imported or likely imported parts (cords, switches and wiring, if any are imported) are about 2–15% of the value.
Level 4 for its J-2000 home and J-4000 Pro Line garment steamers: Jiffy builds its garment steamers by hand in Union City, Tennessee and says it uses American-made parts; the parts makers aren't named.
Jiffy claims American-made parts. It says its steamers are assembled from American-made components in a 52-step process; we rate it a 4 until the parts makers are confirmed.
Look for the Union City models. Jiffy's J-2000 home and J-4000 Pro Line steamers are built in Tennessee.
Each listing's research notes show what was checked and when, including our rough estimate of how much of the value is imported.
