Very few canister vacuums are still built in the USA. The best known is the Rainbow, a water-filtration canister that Rexair molds and assembles in Cadillac, Michigan.
A canister vacuum is mostly its molded body, hose, power nozzle and motor, and the motor is usually bought from abroad. Each listing is rated for the company's most American-made line and says what is known to come from elsewhere.
Rexair makes the Rainbow SRX, a canister vacuum that traps dirt in a water basin instead of a bag, with a power nozzle, attachments and add-ons for shampooing and air freshening. It is sold through authorized distributors in more than 80 countries. Rexair is headquartered in Troy, Michigan.
Rainbow's manufacturing page says, "The Rainbow SRX is made in Cadillac, Michigan, USA using only premium U.S. and imported parts," and that its "precision engineered ABS attachments are produced through advanced plastic injection molding."
A local newspaper's factory tour describes Rexair building its own molds and molding the plastic parts in Cadillac before assembling and testing each unit. Where the motor and electronics are made isn't stated; the company says some parts are imported.
Production history: Rexair builds the Rainbow in Cadillac and runs sales from Troy, Michigan. In 2022 it announced a $3.35 million expansion to move a production line from Asia to Cadillac; its own page (read 11/2026) still says the SRX is made there. We found no closing, move or layoff since.
Our rough estimate: imported or likely imported parts (motor, electronics and some accessories) are about 25–45% of the value.
Level 4 for its Rainbow SRX water-filtration canister, built in Cadillac, Michigan: Rexair molds the plastic parts and builds the Rainbow SRX in Cadillac, Michigan, with U.S. and imported parts; where the motor is made isn't stated.
"U.S. and imported parts" is honest wording. Rexair says the Rainbow SRX is made in Cadillac with U.S. and imported parts, and molds its plastic parts there.
Labels change. Aerus's 2023 sell sheet for its Lux Legacy canister said "Assembled in USA," but its 2026 sell sheets no longer do; we're asking the company before listing it.
Direct-sales canisters cost more but last. Rainbow is sold through in-home demonstrations by authorized distributors.
Each listing's research notes show what was checked and when, including our rough estimate of how much of the value is imported.
