Clothes dryers are still built in the USA, in big plants in Ohio, Wisconsin, Kentucky and Tennessee and by commercial makers in Massachusetts and Iowa, though some brands still bring part of their dryer line in from Mexico.

A dryer is mostly its steel cabinet and drum; its motor, gas valve and controls are often bought from abroad. Each listing is rated for the company's most American-made dryers and names what is known to come from elsewhere.

Source: ADC, home · ADC, about · Whirlpool Corporation, Stayed in America, checked

  • ADC's About page says, "Our Fall River, Massachusetts headquarters is home to a 300,000 sq ft manufacturing facility and a state-of-the-art engineering and design center." It makes no product-level made-in-USA claim; its owner Whirlpool says it uses "domestic and imported components" and that about 96% of its steel is American.
  • These are commercial dryers sold to laundromats and businesses, not home dryers. 2026 job postings for assemblers, brazers and welders at Fall River name its dryer lines, and its spec sheets describe powder-painted steel cabinets. Motors, gas valves and controls are likely imported.
  • Production history: ADC has built dryers in Fall River since 1965 and introduced the stack commercial dryer; Whirlpool bought it in 2015, and in 2023 recalled some ADC stacked dryers.
  • Our rough estimate: imported or likely imported parts (motors, gas valves, controls) are about 20–40% of the value.

Level 4 for its commercial stack and single-pocket tumble dryers for laundromats and on-premise laundries: ADC builds its commercial dryers at its Fall River, Massachusetts plant; its owner Whirlpool says it uses imported components too.

Sources and research notes

Source: GE Appliances, clothes dryers · GE Appliances, Produced in America · Business Wire, GE Appliances $3 billion US investment, 2025, checked

  • GE Appliances' "Produced in America" page says it "designs, engineers and proudly manufactures a wide assortment of appliances in the USA" at "11 American manufacturing plants and microfactories," naming plants in Kentucky, Alabama, Georgia, Tennessee, South Carolina and Connecticut.
  • GE names dryers among the appliances it produces in the USA, and its Louisville Building 1 makes top-load washers and the matching dryers, but its "Produced in America" pages have no dryer section, and some dryers were still made in Mexico; GE plans to move that work to Louisville in late 2027. Product pages don't say which plant built a given dryer. Motors and controls are likely imported.
  • Production history: GE Appliances has built appliances at Appliance Park in Louisville since the 1950s; Haier bought it in 2016, and in 2025 it announced a $3 billion plan to bring more production, including gas ranges, front-load washers and dryers, back from Mexico and China.
  • Our rough estimate: imported or likely imported parts (motors, controls) are about 25–40% of the value.

Sources and research notes

Source: LG press release, 2023 · Assembly Magazine, 2025 · Korea Times, 2023 · LG Customer Care answer at Best Buy, checked

  • LG's own press release (1/18/2023, read on lg.com 11/7/2026): the Clarksville factory is "the U.S. production base for LG's ... washers and dryers," with three lines for front-load and top-load washing machines and dryers, capacity of 1.2 million washers and 600,000 dryers a year, and parts production including "metal press processing, plastic injection molding, and painting"; each line runs "from making the parts to assembly and packaging."
  • LG's product pages (lg.com, 11/7/2026) give no country of origin. An LG Customer Care answer on Best Buy says "the only way to know the Country of Manufacture/Country of Assembly" is the shipping carton or the nameplate, and that it can differ by distributor. Yonhap (6/2025): LG was considering shifting more washer and dryer production to Tennessee.
  • Production history: Clarksville began building washers at the end of 2018 and made its millionth in 2020; a dryer line started mass production in late 2022 (Korea Times, 1/2023). Assembly Magazine (4/2025): about 6,000 washers and 1,000 dryers a day, with a refrigerator line being added by late 2026.

What "made in USA" means for clothes dryers

  • Check the model, not the brand. GE builds dryers in Louisville but still made some in Mexico as of 2025, and its product pages don't say which plant built a given model. LG builds dryers in Tennessee but also sells similar dryers made abroad; the country of manufacture is on the nameplate and the carton.
  • Motors and controls are often imported. Whirlpool's own label says it uses domestic and imported components; most makers don't say where their motors come from.
  • Commercial makers and a drying cabinet are listed too. ADC and Dexter build commercial dryers for laundromats and businesses, and Staber's listing is a drying cabinet, not a tumble dryer; each listing says so.

Each listing's research notes show what was checked and when, including our rough estimate of how much of the value is imported. Ratings are rechecked as companies answer.
