Almost all flatware sold in the US is imported. One factory still makes it here: the former Oneida plant in Sherrill, New York, now run by Sherrill Manufacturing, which sells its own Liberty Tabletop brand and also makes forks and spoons for Cutco.

Flatware is nearly all steel, so the steel and the forging and polishing done to it are what count. Each listing is rated for the company's most American-made line and names what is known to come from elsewhere.

Liberty Tabletop is the consumer brand of Sherrill Manufacturing, which makes 18/10 stainless steel flatware sets, place settings and serving pieces in about 40 patterns, plus flatware for restaurants, private labels and government contracts. Former Oneida managers Greg Owens and Matt Roberts bought Oneida's flatware factory in Sherrill, New York in 2005, and say it is now the only flatware maker in the United States.

Our assessment: Level 5 of 5, Made in USA for its 18/10 stainless flatware

Made in: Sherrill, NY (flatware stamped, forged, ground, polished and packed at its own factory from US-melted stainless steel).

Sources and research notes

Source: Liberty Tabletop, About · Liberty Tabletop, FAQ · Sherrill Manufacturing capability statement, 2025 · Rome Sentinel, 2025, checked

  • Liberty Tabletop's About page: "We proudly source our premium 18/10 stainless steel from American suppliers who meet strict ASTM standards," and its FAQ says, "We purchase stainless steel from American steel mills and require that it be melted in the United States." Every piece "is proudly made in Sherrill, New York," including its knives, whose blades are 410 stainless.
  • Sherrill Manufacturing's 2025 capability statement lists "100% Manufactured in Upstate NY," "Domestically Sourced Steel" and Berry Amendment compliance, which requires US-melted steel for military orders. The Rome Sentinel (February 2025) describes stamping, a 700-ton forge press, knife grinding, etching and polishing in Sherrill, with about 66 employees.
  • Production history: made in the former Oneida plant since 2005. Sherrill Manufacturing went through Chapter 11 from late 2010 to 2013, when production stopped and some contract work was done in Mexico; it brought that work back to Sherrill in June 2014. Its May 2026 blog reports a new US-made washing system for the factory. No sale or later move was found.
  • Our rough estimate: imported content is negligible (0–3%); the hollow-handle knife shells are the only part whose source isn't stated.

Level 5 for its 18/10 stainless flatware: Liberty Tabletop makes its flatware start to finish in Sherrill, New York, from stainless steel it requires to be melted in the United States.

Made in: USA (forks, spoons and serving pieces made for Cutco in Sherrill, NY since 2016; thermo-resin table knives made at its Olean, NY factory).

Imported: German steel for the all-steel Stainless Table Knife in its place settings (Cutco).

Sources and research notes

Source: Cutco, Stainless Flatware · Cutco, Just the Facts · Alliance for American Manufacturing, 2025, checked

  • The specifications on Cutco's 5-piece stainless place setting list the salad fork, dinner fork, soup spoon and teaspoon as "American Made" in 18/10 stainless steel, and the Stainless Table Knife as "American Made with German Steel" (4116 blade).
  • Cutco's Just the Facts sheet says its teaspoon, soup spoon, dinner fork and salad fork have been made in America since February 2016, and that "All Cutco Stainless Steel Flatware and Accessories are made in America." The Alliance for American Manufacturing (July 2025) reports that the flatware is made for Cutco by Sherrill Manufacturing in Sherrill, New York, the maker of Liberty Tabletop, which says it uses US-melted steel. Cutco itself doesn't say where its 18/10 steel is melted.
  • Production history: Cutco's flatware was imported until 2016; forks, spoons and accessories have been made in the US since February and July 2016. No sign of a later move was found.
  • Our rough estimate: forks and spoons have little or no imported content (0–5%); in a place setting, the German steel in the table knife is about 3–6% of the value.

Level 4.5 for its stainless forks and spoons: Cutco's forks and spoons are made in New York from 18/10 steel, and its own spec sheets mark them American made; Cutco doesn't say where that steel is melted, and its all-steel table knife uses German steel.

What "made in USA" means for flatware

  • One factory, two brands. Liberty Tabletop and Cutco's stainless forks and spoons both come from Sherrill, New York.
