Almost every phone case sold in the US is molded overseas. The American makers that remain work in materials a factory mold can't copy: real wood burl, hand-poured resin, full-grain leather and custom-cut vinyl. Their cases are made in small batches, often by hand, and many can be personalized with engraving, monograms or your own artwork.
Carved cuts wood and pours resin inlays by hand in a century-old former dress factory in Elkhart, Indiana. Col. Littleton hand-cuts and sews leather holsters and phone wallets from Tennessee steerhide on a farm near Lynnville. Slickwraps cuts and finishes vinyl skins in Kansas for hundreds of phones, tablets and laptops. Molded plastic shells and magnets are rarely made here, so each listing says what is made in the USA and what is bought in.

Carved makes wood and resin phone cases for iPhone, Samsung Galaxy and Google Pixel. Its Traveler cases set a real wood burl or hand-poured resin inlay into a protective TPU and polycarbonate shell, and most recent models have a built-in MagSafe magnet. Its Live Edge cases are made entirely from wood burl and epoxy resin. Carved also makes wood wireless chargers, wallets, signet rings, knives, bracelets and wall art, with custom engraving.
Elkhart locals Jon Weber and Grant Sassman started Carved in 2011 because they wanted a wood case for their own phones. The company is named after its first laser machine. In 2016 it moved into a renovated, 110-year-old brick and timber former dress factory in Elkhart. There a small team cuts the wood into blanks with laser and CNC machines, hand-mixes and pours resin over it, cures the trays under pressure, then sands, seals and polishes every piece. Its wood burls come from two domestic suppliers in California and Oregon, often from wood the lumber industry would throw away.
Made in: Elkhart, IN (wood cut, resin hand-poured, cured, sanded, finished and assembled into cases).

Col. Littleton makes handmade leather goods and gifts, including phone holsters, phone wallets and tablet cases, along with bags, briefcases, belts, wallets, hats, pocket knives and jewelry. Its belt-clip phone holsters, such as the No. 48 and No. 49, use full-grain, vegetable-tanned American steerhide in custom colors. That leather is made exclusively for the company by a small local tannery. Many of the designs are based on goods from around 1890.
The company started in 1987, when its founder, known as Colonel Littleton, sold 17 pairs of vintage cufflinks to men's stores in packaging he designed himself. He still designs every product. Its office and workshop are at Foxfire Farm at the edge of Lynnville, about an hour south of Nashville. Local craftspeople hand-cut, hand-sew and hand-finish most of the products there, using tools that have changed little in a century.
Made in: Lynnville, TN (leather goods cut, sewn and finished in its workshop); leather tanned near Lynnville.
Imported: pigskin linings and nickel-plated hardware.

Types of phone cases
Wood and resin cases set a real wood or hand-poured resin panel into a protective bumper, so every case looks a little different. Many now include MagSafe magnets.
Leather holsters and sleeves carry your phone on your belt or in a pocket and protect it from scratches. Full-grain, vegetable-tanned leather darkens and develops a patina with age.
Folio and wallet cases wrap the phone in leather or cloth with slots for cards and cash.
Vinyl skins and wraps are thin, precision-cut films that add color, texture and grip and guard against scratches without adding bulk. They don't cushion drops.
Rugged cases use thick TPU and polycarbonate layers to protect against hard drops.
Choosing a phone case
- Match your exact model. Cases and skins are cut for each phone, and a case for a Pro won't fit a Pro Max.
- Decide how much protection you need. Skins guard against scratches, bumper cases handle everyday drops, and rugged cases are for job sites and outdoor work.
- Check MagSafe and wireless charging. Thick leather or a missing magnet can weaken magnetic chargers and mounts.
- Think about how you carry it: in a pocket, on a belt, or in a wallet case that replaces your billfold.
- Look at materials. Real wood, full-grain leather and premium vinyl last longer and age better than printed plastic.
- Ask about personalization, such as engraving, monograms or custom artwork, which small US makers often offer.
Reading "Made in USA" on phone cases
Under FTC rules, an unqualified "Made in USA" claim means all or virtually all of the product is made here. Many American case makers cut, pour, sew and finish their cases here but buy molded TPU or polycarbonate shells, magnets, hardware or linings, often from overseas. Some sellers print a US design on a case made abroad, or describe a brand as "American" based only on where its headquarters is. Look for wording that says what was made where, and check the country of origin on the specific case.
