This page lists American companies that make accessories for the electronics you use every day: desk shelves and monitor stands that organize a computer setup, keyboard and trackpad trays, laptop risers and docks, desk pads, and the watertight, crushproof hard cases that protect cameras, drones, laptops and test gear in the field.

Few accessories are made entirely from American parts. A wood desk shelf may be cut and finished in Oregon but sit on cork from Portugal, and a case molded in California may share a catalog with coolers made overseas. Each listing names the US workshop or plant, the work done there, and the parts or product lines that come from other countries when the company or another source says so.

For phone cases see Phone Cases, and for padded camera bags see Camera Cases.

Preview of the Grovemade website

Grovemade makes premium desk and workspace furniture and accessories from wood, metal, leather, wool felt and cork: desk shelf systems, monitor stands, laptop risers, MacBook docks, iPad and MagSafe stands, keyboard and trackpad trays, wrist rests, display rails, organizers, wool felt, leather and linoleum desk pads, and a wood standing desk. Most wood pieces come in American black walnut, eastern hard rock maple or white oak, often as 7- or 15-ply plywood with solid wood edges, cork bases and aluminum reinforcement. It sells only through its own website.

Made in: Portland, OR (design, wood machining, sanding, finishing and assembly in its own workshop; metal parts made by vendor partners in Portland). Other US work: monitor stands and pen cups with vendor partners in Milwaukee, WI; leather mouse pads in Campbell Hill, IL; linoleum and wool parts die cut in Kelso, WA; metal parts for notebooks in Vancouver, WA.

Imported: cork components come from Portugal; wool felt desk pads use German merino felt and are made with partners in Portland and Apodaca, Mexico; standing desk frames are made in Malaysia and its power panel metal in Ningbo, China; the monitor arm, surge protector, desk-mounted power strip and task knife are made in China. Each product page lists its own origin.

It also sells Elite hard coolers, soft coolers, drinkware, backpacks, phone cases and flashlights, and is owned by Platinum Equity.

Reading "Made in USA" on accessories

Under Federal Trade Commission rules, a plain "Made in USA" label means all or virtually all of the product is made here, including its parts. Labels such as "Made in USA with imported parts" or "Designed in USA" mean only part of the work happened here. Many companies list origin product by product, so one brand can sell both US-made and imported items. The listings on this page say which lines are which when the information is available.

What to look for

  • Hard cases: an O-ring or gasket seal, a pressure-equalization valve for air travel, stainless steel hinge pins and an IP67 or similar water and dust rating.
  • Desk accessories: solid wood or multi-ply hardwood plywood instead of MDF, metal reinforcement in shelves and trays, and cork or rubber feet that will not scratch a desk.
  • Desk pads: vegetable-tanned leather, wool felt and linoleum each wear differently; leather and felt can shift with humidity, while linoleum works as a writing surface.
