Displays are everywhere work and learning happen. There are touch screens on factory machines and control panels, sealed monitors in food and pharmaceutical plants, and interactive tables and kiosks in museums, visitor centers and lobbies. These specialty displays have to survive dust, water, constant handling and long hours of use, which most consumer monitors are never built for.

The flat-panel glass inside nearly every display is made in Asia, since there are no large LCD factories in the US. What American makers do is engineer and build the rest: the rugged enclosure, the touch system, the electronics, the mounting and the final assembly and testing. Hope Industrial Systems has designed, engineered and assembled more than 200,000 industrial monitors and touch screens near Atlanta. Ideum designs and builds multitouch tables, kiosks and displays in its Corrales, New Mexico workshops. Each listing shows what is made here and what is bought in.

Hope Industrial Systems makes industrial flat-panel monitors and touch screens for factory automation, process control and other industrial uses. Its range includes panel-mount and rack-mount monitors, stainless steel washdown displays sealed for food, beverage and pharmaceutical plants, and full-enclosure, open-frame and sunlight-readable models, plus mounts, enclosures and accessories. Most models are kept in stock for immediate shipment, and standard products carry a five-year limited warranty with 24–48 hour repair turnaround on most models.

Hope was founded in 2000 by managers from a leading industrial display company. It started in a basement in Atlanta and moved to its current Roswell facility in 2005. Hope says all of its more than 200,000 monitors and touch screens have been designed, engineered and assembled in the USA. Manufacturing and customer support share one building, and Hope sells worldwide through sites in Europe, the UK and Mexico.

Ideum designs and builds multitouch tables, touch kiosks and touch displays, along with custom interactive exhibits for museums, zoos, aquariums, visitor centers, universities and corporate spaces. Its touch tables include the Pro II, Platform II and Drafting II (43" to 75"), the Pico coffee table and the 86" Colossus, which fits up to eight people. Its +PLUS Series adds brighter, optically bonded screens that resist dust, moisture and impact, and its Inline display is made for fabricators building their own kiosks and tables. The standard tables use all-aluminum frames, many with patented designs, and are built for ADA accessibility. Ideum has sold touch tables in 60 countries since 2008 and also rents them in the US.

Ideum has made interpretive exhibits for 25 years from its campus in Corrales, just north of Albuquerque, and has more than 40 employees. Its product manufacturing team builds its multitouch displays there. Its industrial design group designs the tables, and custom touch tables are designed and fabricated in wood and metal in its newly expanded Fabrication Studio, which has a CNC router, plasma cutter, mill, laser cutter and woodshop. Ideum was named one of New Mexico's top manufacturers in 2025.

Made in: Corrales, NM (touch tables and displays designed and built; custom tables, kiosks and exhibits fabricated).

Bought in: display panels and touch components from commercial suppliers such as LG, Displax and TES.

  • New Mexico: Ideum (Corrales), multitouch tables, touch kiosks and touch displays for museums and public spaces

Types of specialty displays

Panel-mount monitors fit into cutouts in machine panels and control cabinets, sealed on the front against dust and water spray.

Rack-mount monitors install in standard 19-inch racks in control rooms, server rooms and test stations.

Stainless washdown displays are fully sealed in stainless steel to withstand high-pressure, high-temperature cleaning in food, beverage and pharmaceutical plants.

Sunlight-readable displays use high-brightness panels and special coatings for outdoor or brightly lit areas.

Multitouch tables are large horizontal touch screens in rugged frames that let several people use them at once. They're common in museums, visitor centers and showrooms.

Touch kiosks and walls are upright or wall-mounted interactive displays for wayfinding, exhibits and information.

Choosing a display

  • Match the environment. Check ingress ratings (IP65, IP66, IP69K) for dust and water, and temperature and vibration ratings for factory floors.
  • Pick the right touch technology. Projected capacitive touch works through glass and supports multitouch. Resistive touch works with gloves and styluses.
  • Consider brightness and viewing angle for bright rooms, outdoor use, or tables seen from all sides.
  • Plan for accessibility in public spaces. ADA reach and roll-up clearances matter for tables and kiosks.
  • Look at warranty and repair turnaround. Industrial users need fast repairs to keep lines and exhibits running.

Reading "Made in USA" on displays

Under FTC rules, an unqualified "Made in USA" claim means all or virtually all of the product is made here. Because LCD panels and most touch sensors are imported, displays usually can't meet that standard. Accurate claims are qualified ones, such as "Designed, engineered and assembled in the USA." When US content matters, ask which parts the company builds itself, such as enclosures, frames, electronics and touch integration, and where final assembly and testing take place.
