Most bicycles sold in the United States are built overseas, but American frame builders, wheel builders and machine shops still make bikes and parts here. Many are one-person shops that build a frame around a single rider. Others are long-running brands such as Litespeed in Chattanooga, Tennessee, and Worksman Cycles, which has built heavy-duty bikes in New York since 1898. Trek, headquartered in Waterloo, Wisconsin, makes its frames overseas but hand paints and assembles its custom Project One bikes there.
The biggest group in this section is the custom frame builders: the steel builders, the titanium shops clustered in Colorado, Massachusetts and Chattanooga and a handful of carbon fiber builders. You will also find specialty bikes (tandems, folding, cargo, recumbent and electric bikes), the American makers of hubs, headsets and wheels on the parts page, and racks, tools and bags under accessories.
Companies that build several kinds of bikes are listed on this page. A company that focuses on one type is listed on that type's page. Each listing says where the company builds and, where the company or a reliable source says so, which parts come from elsewhere.

What "made in USA" means for a bicycle
A bicycle is a frame plus dozens of parts, and very few complete bikes are American from end to end. Gears, shifters, brakes and tires on most bikes, including many hand-built ones, come from overseas suppliers. Even a frame welded or brazed in the US is often built from imported tubing, such as Columbus and Dedacciai from Italy or Reynolds from Britain.
So the listings on this site say what is made here: the frame, the wheels, the motor, the assembly. When a company or a reliable source names imported parts, the listing says so too.
Where American bikes are built
California has the most bicycle makers on our list, followed by Colorado and Oregon, then Massachusetts and North Carolina. Boulder and Steamboat Springs, Colorado, are home to several titanium brands; Portland and Eugene, Oregon, to frame builders, wheel builders and component makers; and Asheville, North Carolina, to a small cluster of parts machinists.
