Matt Appleman runs a one-person carbon fiber shop that makes the 2XR aluminum crankset, including tandem and short-crank FIT versions, and repairs damaged carbon frames sent in by mail. He has built custom carbon road, gravel, cyclocross, mountain and fat bike frames, but is not taking frame orders now.

Made in: Minneapolis, MN (crank finishing, carbon repair and frames). The cranks are CNC machined by a Minnesota machine shop. The site names no imported parts.

Bicycle components for mountain, road and gravel riders: 110, Hellbender and 40-series headsets, rear shocks, Helm and Invert suspension forks, eeBrakes, Thudbuster and eeSilk seatposts, and stems.

Made in: Fletcher, NC (shocks, forks, brake calipers, headsets and bottom brackets are built or assembled by hand; 110 headsets are machined there). The 40-series headsets are made in Taiwan.

Made in: Portland, OR (headsets, hubs, bottom brackets, bearings and hand-built wheels, made in its Northwest Portland factory since 2003). Hub axles are machined by another Oregon shop.

Made in: Asheville, NC (cogs and chainrings, machined by Turnamics; the company works out of Industry Nine's building). All of its parts are described as made in Asheville; no imported products are reported.

Made in: Ogden, UT (carbon wheels and rims, Custom Road frames). The Melee production road frame, its forks and its handlebars are made overseas at a long-time partner factory, and the tires and saddles on complete bikes come from other brands.

Kool Stop makes brake pads for bicycles: rim brake pads, disc brake pads and replacement inserts, using compounds it develops itself. It has made pads in Oregon since 1977.

Made in: Lake Oswego, OR (most products, including pads, compounds and tooling). It also sells some accessories it does not make, such as a child bike seat.

Handbuilt bicycle wheelsets for road, gravel, mountain and track riding, in aluminum and carbon rim versions, including the Ares3 carbon road clincher; wheels are laced by hand at the company's Oregon headquarters.

Made in: Eugene, OR (wheels built by hand; aluminum rims made in-house since 2013). Hubs are produced with White Industries.
