On a recumbent the rider sits back in a full seat with the pedals out front. Many riders choose one because it takes weight off the hands, wrists, neck and seat on long rides. Long-wheelbase models ride smoothly for touring; short-wheelbase models are quicker and more compact.

Bilenky Cycle Works, on the tandem page, builds a semi-recumbent tandem.
