American boatbuilders still build most kinds of boats sold here, from aluminum jon boats and bass boats to offshore center consoles, wake boats, pontoons and mahogany runabouts. Some are large plants that build thousands of boats a year; others are family shops that build a handful to order.

Browse by type: freshwater fishing boats, saltwater and offshore fishing boats, runabouts, ski and performance boats, pontoon boats, classic wooden boats, kayaks and canoes, sailboats and commercial, government and military boats.

The builders featured below are names many boaters already know. Each builds in its own US plant, and each one's listing says what it builds there and where that information comes from. Featured spots are not paid for. Every featured company also appears, with more detail, on the page for the type of boat it builds.

Engines are a different story. Most outboard and sterndrive engines on American boats come from a handful of engine makers, and many of those engines are built outside the USA. Each listing covers where the boat itself is built.
