These shops build motorcycles to order rather than on an assembly line: long, low choppers, theme bikes, and one-off customs built from bare frames or stripped-down production bikes. Several also make and sell parts of their own.

Most custom builders buy engines and transmissions from specialist suppliers such as S&S and build the frame, bodywork and fittings themselves. Each listing says what the shop builds in-house and what it buys in, where the shop or a reliable source says so.
