Idaho's manufacturing sector was 11th in the state in the number of establishments at 1,732, or 4.0% of the state total, which is the same as the national average of 4.0%. The number of Idahoans working in manufacturing was 53,345 or 11.0% of the state total, which is above the national average of 9.6%.

#1 - Food Manufacturing

Industries in the Food Manufacturing subsector transform livestock and agricultural products into products for intermediate or final consumption. The industry groups are distinguished by the raw materials processed into food products.
There are a total of 15,196 persons employed in food manufacturing, comprising 28.4% of Idaho's manufacturing workforce & 3.14% of Idaho's total workforce. There are 204 business establishments in the food manufacturing sector. Important sub-sectors include; Fruit and vegetable preserving and specialty food manufacturing (7,480 workers), Dairy product manufacturing (2,401 workers), and Animal slaughtering and processing (1,000 workers).

#2 - Computer and Electronic Product Manufacturing

Industries in the Computer and Electronic Product Manufacturing subsector group establishments that manufacture computers, computer peripherals, communications equipment, and similar electronic products, and establishments that manufacture components for such products.
There are a total of 11,047 persons employed in computer and electronic product manufacturing, comprising 20.7% of Idaho's manufacturing workforce & 2.28% of Idaho's total workforce. There are 47 business establishments in the computer and electronic product manufacturing sector. Important sub-sectors include; Semiconductor and related device manufacturing (7,999 workers), Computer and peripheral equipment manufacturing (2,500 workers), and Electronic instrument manufacturing (410 workers.)

There are 282 business establishments in the fabricated metal product manufacturing sector.
