The number of Texans working in manufacturing was 733,679 or 8.16% of the state total, which is below the national average of 9.68%.
Many of these businesses make their products from the natural resources available here, such as, from trees harvested from the forest, minerals & ores mined from quarries, animals raised on farms or crops grown here.
You will also find both factory produced & handcrafted wood, metal & mineral products. Things like, local gourmet foods, spices & preserves, custom manufactured electronic devices & components, also, earth, engine & human powered machinery & transportation equipment, to name just a few. Some important processes for the manufacture of machinery are forging, stamping, bending, forming, and machining that are used to shape individual pieces of metal.
There are a total of 74,933 persons employed in Machinery manufacturing, comprising 10.2 % of Texas' manufacturing workforce & 0.83% of Texas' total workforce. There are 1654 business establishments in the Machinery manufacturing sector. Important sub-sectors include; Agriculture, construction, and mining machinery manufacturing (31,996 workers), Mining and oil and gas field machinery manufacturing (29,012 workers), and Industrial machinery manufacturing (3,862 workers).
